When it comes to your company, you need to protect both your employees and your company with a Realistic Continuity Plan.
We all face numerous challenges every day in making our businesses run. Now, suppose a new twist is presented – one that stops you or employees from entering your building (fire, flood, hurricane, etc.)
Or suppose you get hit with some kind of computer virus or ransomware and can’t access your files?
Or an unhappy employee decides to magnetize your equipment or delete key files?
I think you get the idea.
But what do you do?
Often, a lot of attention is given to “Disaster plans”. They can be purchased or built yourself. But how good is yours? When was the last time you tested it? Does it really give you access to all the information you need? Did it work? Realistically, how long can you afford to recover? A few hours, one day, two days?
Companies with requirements such as HIPAA, HITECH, SOX (and its subsequent varieties of legislation) all require that data never be lost, and always be recoverable. To comply with these requirements some careful and planning and execution are needed to meet the requirements of the Law. Serious fines exist when they are not followed
BMB Solutions can assist your team to work through your entire continuity plan, as well as provide you key solutions to help you with Backups, Remote Replication, Redundancy, and many more items which you will need when the time comes to mitigate your event.
Outages can result from many occurrences. Disastrous events for a business can come in many sizes. They can be a total destruction, or simply a water leak. It can be a cyber-attack, or an employee deleting data which is needed. It can be a disgruntled employee, or simply an accident.
Outages to your business delivery systems tend to be more common. Sometimes the smaller they are, the rarer they can be, but can have a more severe impact than a larger, more common disaster. For example, a small data deletion, at a critical time, such as before a court deadline, IRS deadline, or during an inspection, can turn into a serious violation, with time, money and reputation consequences. Don’t let the size of an event fool you into thinking it might not be critical.
Your plan should include the following:
An Evacuation Plan
A Shelter-in-Place Plan
A Lockdown Plan
An Escalation Plan
A Recovery Plan
In addition, you will need to communicate:
Talk to your People
Promote Family and Individual Preparedness
Support your Employees Health after a disaster
Protect your Investment
Review Your Insurance Coverage for how it applies in small and large disaster events
Prepare for Utility Disruptions with UPS systems, generators and alternative locations
Prepare for Data Disruptions with Virtualization, Replication, Off Site backups, and cloud servers.
Prepare for Space Disruptions
Prepare for Telephone Disruptions with VoIP and Automatic Settings at your provider to forward calls when service is down.
Improve Cyber Security with good firewalls, policies and locked down systems.
Finally you will need to Practice your plan with your employees and Co-Workers to ensure the plan makes sense and is understood.
Many of these items can be kept on standby for your company by BMB Solutions and your data restored to you in hours not days.
