It’s Tough to Keep Up.
It seems like we hear about a new version of ransomware much too often, doesn’t it?
In August, Cybersecurity news was dominated by a new variant of GlobeImposter. It’s been steadily spreading throughout the US & Europe, thanks to multiple instances of malspam (that’s the email in your inbox that you don’t want- and you’re not exactly sure why or how you got it in the first place.) The new variant exploits open remote desktop ports. When an open port is detected, the infection is manually installed by a cyber-criminal.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I GET RANSOMWARE?
It plays out like this: you open an email attachment, visit a website, or install software downloaded from the Internet; and suddenly, a ransom note displays & your computer is frozen. The note demands payment in order to restore access, typically using an untraceable method of payment. GlobeImposter demands payment of 1 bitcoin to unlock compromised files. Currently, 1 bitcoin costs around $4500.00 USD. That’s a nice chunk of change.
It’s Time To Advance
DOES ALL THIS SOUND SCARY & EXPENSIVE?
Imagine if it happened at a business, spreading from one workstation to another, locking local files and spreading to your network. Aside from paying the ransom amount, system downtime is expensive. Labor costs, revenue loss, and impact on your brand & service-levels all come into play. Prevent ransomware from holding your business hostage (at a price you can afford) with Intercept X Security and a Next Generation Firewall. High-level details are below.
